   Transformations
This lakefront home will inherit an additional floor while keeping the same footprint.
But the real story is not the additional space.  View several dozens of computer assisted design in 3D, enabling you to see, feel and "touch" the home...

   White Plains Kitchen

A better title would be "EXTREME MAKEOVER".  No simple facelift here.  The entire first floor has been given a new look, a new identity.  That's how you make yourself feel and look better.  Love yourself and your family.  Now that's Healthy.

   Dobbs Ferry Master Suite

Complete remodel of existing master bath.  An adjacent closet was made slightly smaller and a set of open shelves were eliminated to enlarge the bathroom and accommodate two persons comfortably.

   Dobbs Ferry Kitchen

The highlight of this kitchen remodel is clearly the three new Anderson French doors, opening up the kitchen to the backyard.

   Pelham Manor Lower Level

Imagine walking barefoot on a warm floor (around 100 degrees) instead of the opposite, a cold (50 - 55 degrees) concrete floor...

MORE THAN SMOKE

Our featured project is slowly, but surely, taking shape.  After a four month wait to get all the necessary permits, we went ahead with the interior demolition in the first week of April.  Scaffolding was erected right on the roof, wrapping the existing chimney.  Immediately, seven weeks of work began with the fifteen foot chimney extension, which is the "backbone" of the house structure .  You see, everything revolves around this load bearing masonry masterpiece, including the new roof, which will be reframed with the twelve existing, salvaged rafters.  Scheduled for July, the roof will rise up to its new height, one story taller.  Stay tuned.  Watch the weekly updated video clips.

GREEN

Yes, it's the color of money.  But it's also an inevitable new trend in new home construction and in existing home remodeling.  Yes, building and remodeling green have a lot to do with the environment, but it is so much more than that.  And, in the end, the real winners are the occupants of the new living quarters, you.  Find out how, before you undertake any other project.  We just came across this newly published book called Good Green Homes.  Learn more about this book from this short newspaper article.  You can also learn more about green homes by following our featured project, Transformations.

VINTAGE WOOD IS IN

Architects, contractors and interior designers are incorporating vintage wood -- from plank flooring to hand-hewn beams -- into home renovations and construction. Decorative elements, such as corbels and columns, are being used as accent pieces or to make an architectural statement.  Read the article

We were fortunate enough to find twelve 200 years old beams for our Transformations project.  You should see these beauties;  It was love at first sight!  You will be able to appreciate these beauties and judge for yourself right here.  Make sure to leave time in your busy schedule for a date with them.  And here's the place where they were hiding, waiting for the world to appreciate their uniqueness and character: Reclamation Lumber LLC, New Haven CT.

HEATING THE FLOOR, NOT THE AIR

This excellent article on the subject was published in The New York Times last year.  After reading this article, we were commissioned by a client to "heat the basement floor, not the air".  Because of the resulting comfort, ease of maintenance, value and energy-efficiency, hydronic radiant heat is also as inevitable as the green building movement.

QUIZ

Everyone loves an entertaining quiz.  This short one will do more than that:  It could be a life saver.  Before you move on and go ahead with your next remodeling project and hire a contractor, take this True or False 15 Questions Quiz.

* HAVE A $100 DINNER ON US

Are you aware that your recently completed project became "Our Working Showroom"* and you have become "Our Best Salesperson"?

When your support results into a signed project with us, we will show our gratitude to those who recommend us and to those of you who open their doors to let one of our prospective customers see "the Working Showroom"*.

We'll send you to dinner at one of Westchester's premiere restaurants, Peter Pratt's Inn, on us! (A $100 value.  Good for a la carte dining, Tuesdays to Sundays).

Peter Pratt's Inn was recently awarded a four star rating by Gerry Dawes, a writer for The Journal News.  You can find out more by visiting the web site, Peter Pratt's Inn.com.  You'll be able to review the menu and wine list, and even get directions. We recommend printing the map.

Bon Appetit!

*What WE call a "Working Showroom" is an actual, real, functional project (i.e.: kitchen, bathroom) that has been built around existing conditions, restrictions and obstructions, as opposed to those setup showrooms found in retailer's displays where the only limitation is the designer's imagination!
